Batavia Overseas VFW Post 1197's members and it's Ladies Auxiliary 1197 members take matters seriously to help and assist veterans in need. We have several programs to assist veterans in our community and nearby communities.

Host blind veterans from Hines VA hospital once a month for a dinner and to play bingo - see photos below
Host blind veterans from Hines VA hospital twice a year for a day of fishing on the Fox River. Dinner afterwards and play bingo for a full day before returning to the hospital - see photos below
Veterans Day, Memorial Service Programs held at the Post for the community.
Place flags on the graves of all veterans in the community cemeteries. This is done with the combined help of American Legion Post 504.
Funeral home and cemetery services for deceased veterans.
Donate and support state and national VFW veteran programs and their families in need.
Visit Hines VA Hospital and nursing homes.
Donate food to Hesed House where homeless veterans and people live.
Annual donation of money, books to the Veterans State Home in Quincy,Illinois.
Visit / send cards to post and auxiliary members in the hospital.
Annual donation of money, books, games to the VFW National Home.

Loyalty Day Parade - click here for this year's info
The parade was started in 1975. Every year Post 1197 sponsors, organizes, and operates the parade on the first Sunday in May. Post 1197 thanks everyone who has contributed to the funding of the parade. With the help of dozens of volunteers, policemen, firemen, city workers, the parade has been a great success. The parade starts on the west side of Batavia, marches east through the center of Batavia's downtown, south on IL Rt. 25 ending at VFW Post 1197. Every year the parade grows bigger with all the communities who participate.

Annual Policeman and Fireman Dinner -
Every year VFW Post 1197 honors the police, Fire, ESDA, and Kane County Sheriff's Departments for all the work that is done all year to keep our communities safe.

The Annual Dinner is held every January for a evening of awards, fun, entertainment, music and dancing. $1,000 is awarded annually to one of the departments for the purchase of new equipment.
